We are situated in an area of outstanding beauty - there are many places to be discovered and it is certainly possible to get off the beaten track.

Local Beaches

On the drive from Fort William, especially the drive on the old road from Arisaig to Mallaig there are a number of beautiful unspolied beaches like Traigh (opposite the Traigh Golf Course), Camusdarach and Silver Sands of Morar. They are famous for their white sands and have been made famous from movies 'Highlander' and 'Local Hero'.

Inverie, Knoydart

A peninsular on mainland Britian only accessable by foot or ferry, Inverie is a small settlement which lies between Loch Nevis and Loch Hourn. The area is popular with hill walkers, mountaineers, sailors and wildlife enthusiasts. It includes the Munros of Ladhar Bheinn (1020m) and Sgurr na Cìche (1040m). Inverie also boasts 'The Old Forge' which is "Britian's Most Remote Pub".

West Highland Railway Line - Train journey Fort William to Mallaig

A very scenic rail journey which also crosses over the Glenfinnan viaduct, the line was voted the top rail journey in the world by readers of independent travel magazine Wanderlust in 2009 and 2010..

Jacobite Steam Train

During the summer season a steam locomotive-hauled daily return service between Fort William and Mallaig known as "The Jacobite" is operated by West Coast Railways. The train featured as "The Hogwarts Express" in the Harry Potter movies.

Glenfinnan, Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Glenfinnan Monument

The Glenfinnan Monument situated at the head of Loch Shiel was erected in 1815 to mark the place where Prince Charles Edward Stuart ("Bonnie Prince Charlie") raised his standard, at the beginning of the 1745 Jacobite Rising. After being defeated in Culloden, in his flight to evade government troops, Charles came to the same area again. After being hidden by loyal supporters he boarded a French frigate at the shores of Loch nan Uamh, close to where he had landed and raised his standard. Today The Prince's Cairn marks the spot from which he departed.

Isle of Eigg

The Isle of Eigg is one of the Small Isles, in the Scottish Inner Hebrides. It lies to the south of the Skye and to the north of the Ardnamurchan peninsula. The island has superb wildlife, birdlife and a fascinating history where early inhabitants have left their mark on the landscape.

Isle of Rum

The largest of the Small Isles but only inhabited by thirty or so people, all of whom live in the village of Kinloch on the east coast. The island has been inhabited since the 8th millennium BC and provides some of the earliest known evidence of human occupation in Scotland. The entire island is owned and managed as a single estate by Scottish Natural Heritage who also look after its Kinloch Castle.

Isle of Canna and Sanday

The islands were left to the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) by their previous owner and are run as a farm and conservation area. The islands are renowned for their birdlife, including sea eagles, golden eagles and puffins. Canna is also noted for its tiers of basalt pillars that rise over the eastern half of the island and the sea cliffs that dominate its northern shore.

Isle of Muck

Muck is the smallest of four main islands in the Small Isles. It is known for its seal population, and for the porpoises in the surrounding waters. The name comes from the Gaelic word for porpoise. Muck is easy to walk around, a map of island walks is available from the Craft Shop.

Morar

While in the village of Morar, you should take the opportunity to visit the cross and viewpoint which affords panoramic views of the Inner Hebrides and Loch Morar whihc is the deepest loch in Britian.

Arisaig

Until 1801, Arisaig was home to more than 1000 people who were cleared during the Highland Clearances. Today its a popular spot to explore the areas beautiful beaches and Small Isles.
